Super glue sets in seconds: 10 to 45 for Gorilla, 15 to 30 for Loctite. Loctite says to leave its glues for at least 5 or 10 minutes before handling. Give it 8 to 24 hours to fully cure, depending on the brand. Moisture in the air is what cures it.

| Krazy Glue All Purpose, Max Bond | 10 seconds (pages) | Not stated | Overnight (FAQ) |
| Krazy Glue Wood Formula | 6 minutes (page); 2 to 6 minutes (FAQ) | Not stated | Overnight (FAQ) |
| J-B Weld SuperWeld Extreme | 30 seconds | Not stated | 24 hours |
| Starbond Super Fast Thin | 3 to 5 seconds | Not stated | “Full cure takes longer” |
From each product’s page, data sheet or FAQ. Loctite’s Gel data sheet gives 15 to 30 seconds in its table and 15 to 60 in its directions; Krazy Glue’s FAQ says it starts bonding in 10 to 60 seconds and most repairs set in about two minutes. Titebond’s shared description says Instant Bond sets in 5 to 15 seconds; each viscosity’s spec gives 3, 5, 8 or 20.
Set is not cure
The seconds each maker prints are the set time. Loctite says to leave its glues undisturbed for at least 5 or 10 minutes, depending on the product, and full strength takes hours. Starbond puts it plainly: a fast initial set is not the same as full cure.
Humidity and cold
- Moisture cures it. Gorilla says super glue cures by reacting with water, including the water vapor in room air, and doesn’t dry by evaporating. Krazy Glue says water vapor on surfaces and in the air triggers the bond.
- Loctite’s super glue data sheets say its times depend on temperature and humidity, and most add the porosity of the surface and the amount of glue; each says to apply above 50°F.
- Titebond says to apply above 50°F, best between 55 and 85°F, and to keep it from freezing.
- Krazy Glue says cold slows it, and suggests warming cold parts slightly, to 86 to 122°F.
Speeding it up
Some makers sell an activator or accelerator. Titebond says its Instant Bond Activator is especially effective for large gaps, very porous woods and low humidity; its aerosol Accelerator is extremely flammable. Starbond says its accelerator helps CA glue set in seconds when it could otherwise take minutes, and Bob Smith Industries says its Insta-Set activates CA in 6 to 8 seconds. Loctite’s US range has no standalone activator; the one it makes comes in its Plastics Bonding System, where it reacts with the surface for 1 minute before gluing.
