For ceramic or porcelain to ceramic or porcelain, indoors
Makers list both surfaces for
Gorilla Epoxy (two-part epoxy). Apply within 5 minutes of mixing, then clamp 30 minutes. Fills gaps; water resistant, not for constant water.
Gorilla Max Strength Construction Adhesive Clear (construction adhesive). Fully cures within 24 hours. Waterproof, and the surfaces can be wet.
Gorilla Super Glue Gel (super glue). Sets in 10 to 45 seconds. Gorilla rates it for indoor use and not for filling gaps.
Loctite Vinyl, Fabric & Plastic Flexible Adhesive (flexible solvent glue). Cures in 24 hours. Not for heat over 140°F.
Loctite Extreme Glue (hybrid polymer glue). Clamp 30 minutes, full cure in about 24 hours. Water resistant, not for underwater use.
Original Gorilla Glue (polyurethane glue). Clamp 1 to 2 hours; best after 24 hours. Waterproof (ANSI/HPVA Type I), and it expands as it cures.

A broken mug handle
The glue makers’ limits all point the same way:
Loctite’s super glue gel and its Plastics Bonding System aren’t for parts that hold hot liquids, or for the dishwasher, oven or microwave.
Gorilla says its super glue isn’t for direct or indirect food contact, and Gorilla Epoxy shouldn’t be considered food safe.
No glue we read claims food contact for a mug repair.
A glued mug can go back on the shelf. For drinking from, replace it.
Glazed pieces and bone china
Loctite’s two super glues above also say not to use them on glazed surfaces or pure bone china, and Loctite Glass Glue rules out pure bone china too. For a glazed piece, look to a glue whose maker lists ceramic without that limit, such as Gorilla Epoxy, or Loctite’s Instant Mix 5 Minute, which names china and tile.
Getting a clean join
Super glue sets in seconds, so dry-fit the pieces first. A two-part epoxy gives a few minutes to line them up: Loctite’s Instant Mix gels in 5 to 7 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours.
Not with the super glues here. Loctite rules the dishwasher out for its gel and its Plastics Bonding System, and Gorilla rules out food contact for its super glue.
Does super glue work on porcelain?
Gorilla's and Loctite's super glues list ceramic, but Loctite excludes pure bone china and glazed surfaces for its gel.
The ceramic listings and the hot-liquid, dishwasher and food limits come from Loctite’s and Gorilla’s product pages, data sheets and FAQs. Checked against published data from Gorilla Glue Company, Henkel, J-B Weld, Eclectic Products and Pittsburgh Paints Company.
