Each product’s own figures, from its maker’s page or data sheet. Times depend on bead size, temperature and humidity.
Silicones that list siding can’t be painted, so pick the color. For painted siding, the exterior latex sealants take paint, DAP DYNAFLEX ULTRA after an hour. Loctite’s window guide says neutral-cure silicone suits vinyl siding.
Vinyl siding: what not to caulk
The Vinyl Siding Institute’s manual says not to caulk the lap joints, or where panels meet inside corners, outside corners or J-trim, so the siding can move. Around windows, Pella asks for room between the frame and the siding for a sealant bead.
Each product’s places, rain times and movement ratings come from its maker’s own page or data sheet, and the vinyl siding rules from the Vinyl Siding Institute’s manual. Checked against published data from DAP, GE Sealants, Red Devil, Sashco and AZEK and Vinyl Siding Institute (plus 2 more).
